I thought I should catch everyone up on my whereabouts, apparently I have a lot of people reading this and I've recieved quite a few emails asking me about where I've been. let me catch you up.
I'm actually home now, but I was in Finca Bella Vista for the last part of my trip and as I've stated over and over in this blog I absolutely love the area and did not want to return home. so Let me tell you about my days at the Finca. I last wrote about it on the first night I arrived and I left with the intentions of getting back online and writing more while I was there, but never got around to it because I was having way too much fun away from the computer. :)
I am VERY proud of myself because as many of you know, my all time greatest fear in the world is having a spider crawl into my ear while I sleep and lay babies (I know, it's far fetched, but it's a fear I've had for years and years...) well, on my first night I went into my cabina to get my headlamp out of my backpack, and as I opened the door I felt something hit my head and fall to the floor... so I didn't step where I felt it fall and I grabbed my headlamp put it on my head and turned it on only to find a spider on the floor the size of my hand!! yes, the size of my HAND!! I know, I don't really have the biggest hands in the world but they are big enough, especially when we're talking SPIDER anyway I picked a shoe up off the floor and as I picked the shoe up the spider JUMPED up and INTO my sheets on the bed! AHHH! anyway, I zipped my backpack up so it wouldn't get into my clothes and moved my pack to the bench. I went down to the dinner area and told Matt who replied "and you're telling me this Why???" I said, "well, You're the MAN, do something about it" in a totally joking manner, but he went to see what he could do (what a gentleman) anyway, he came back and said, Nope, didn't find it.
anyway, the night went on and I didn't think of the spider once... BUT I did eventually have to go to bed... (here's the part where I'm so proud of myself...) I got to the cabina shook the sheets lifted up the pillow and found nothing... crawled into bed and fell sound asleep. never once thinking about the giant spider! YAY ME! (I'm sure you all think I'm exaggerating but I have a photo to prove the size of the spider... not the same spider, but one that looked like it's twin. I'll post it)
okay, Day 2 at the Finca.
this is the day that we actually got to hike around and look at the property not just base camp. we hiked up and I wasn't allowed to bring my camera because Matt said we'd be in the water and my camera isn't waterproof, so he gave his to me and I have not yet recieved the photos from my hike...
Erica, Matt, Brent and I hiked up to Matt and Ericas lot and they showed us the waterfall that is the view from their soon to be built front porch. it was amazing! the hike was beautiful and tough and I'm not sure I've sweat so much in my entire life. we hiked around to see the three trees that will form the tri-pod base for their multi-level treehouse and we hiked around the neighbors property and then decided it was too hot and we should play in the waterfall and the swimming hole. we hiked up and over a ton of rocks took off all our hiking clothes and jumped in the swimming hole then played under the giant waterfall until we decided we were cool enough. we then put on our giant hiking socks and boots and started the incredible hike back UP the mountain. by UP I mean STRAIGHT UP (I'm so out of shape it's unbelievable surfing did NOTHING for my leg muscles or to prepare me for a hike!) we then arrived at the main road where Matt had to leave to run to town and get a new grill. Erica hiked us up to the Point which was about a 35 minute hike and on the way we saw about 30 squirrel monkeys playing in the trees and about 5 or 6 white faced monkeys... they were so cute and fun to watch. we continued up to the point and witnessed a spectacular view from the top. it really was a point and it jutted out over two huge valleys and if you leaned you could see both rivers (I didn't lean this point was so sketchy I was sure I would fall!) we then hiked back down and enjoyed a nice long swim in the swimming hole, which also served as our bath... it was so refreshing.
there is so much to tell about how amazing the finca is and I'm so sorry that I can't even begin to put into words how amazing it all was but I'm so happy that I can share small bits with everyone.
I know this is a very long winded blog so I'll cut this one short for now and post a few photos of the finca base area and some of the waterfalls and swimming holes that we hiked up. I'll upload full albums soon as well.
I hope you're all enjoying this lovely cool fresh Colorado air. ahhh.
xox,
S
